Rubesco Riserva Vigna Monticchio 2017

Rubesco Riserva Vigna Monticchio is an elegant and solidly structured Torgiano Rosso Riserva DOCG wine with a deep ruby colour. Its aroma is reminiscent of morello cherry and blackberry, with delicate hints of violet, light menthol notes and a spicy finish. The taste is fruity and slightly balsamic, with soft, velvety tannins and a long, lingering finish. Lungarotti makes this excellent Umbrian red wine with Sangiovese di Monticchio grapes, cultivated in the terroir of Torgiano, double spurred cordon trained and harvested in October. After the harvest, fermentation in stainless steel with maceration on the skins for 15-20 days is followed by one year's maturation in barriques and several years' ageing in the bottle. Due to its complexity, Lungarotti's Rubesco Riserva Vigna Monticchio is a wine suitable for an average ageing of 30-35 years. It is a perfect wine to pair with refined international dishes such as pepper fillet with Japanese mustard, pigeon with black truffle, roast ox with wasabi, Peking duck, guinea fowl alla ghiotta and mature cheeses. Rubesco Riserva Vigna Monticchio is considered one of the best Italian reds, a profound expression of Umbria, with a perfect harmony between power and elegance. Rubesco is a fancy brand name, derived from the Latin verb 'rubescere': to blush. On the label is a bas-relief depicting the grape harvest, a detail from Perugia's Fontana Maggiore, the most beautiful fountain in the 13th century square.
