The ancient tradition of the arid and calcareous lands of Marsala lives again in a historic Sicilian white wine: the Old Samperi. Grapes Grillo of the island's hinterland that reincarnate the ancient tradition of wines grown in times gone by, landscapes, colors and habits now disappeared.
Harvesting takes place in the last weeks of September, from sapling and Guyot counter-espalier plants, with manual selection of Grillo grapes, pressing and natural sedimentation. Fermentation takes place in oak and natural chestnut barrels at room temperature, while ageing for at least 15 years involves the use of the traditional perpetual method, a technique with overlapping barrels and wine decanted from barrels of the upper level to those of the lower level.
The colour of Vecchio Samperi appears amber with an intense luminosity. The nose is complex, with hints of honey, dried fruit and oriental spices. A rich and articulated body, with dry and long persistence, makes it an ideal companion for mature cheeses, braised meats and oysters. A surprising Magnum version to be enjoyed as an aperitif among friends.
